Kingdom Creation

I recently took a trip to Florida with family. We visited several animal attractions. During the past week, I have been blessed to witness hundreds of animals revealing God’s creativity, and even humor. I saw species I’ve never heard of, and I saw creatures that made me laugh and stare.

Our visit to the Lion Country Safari in West Palm Beach fulfilled my inner child and itch for excitment, but even more so it left me in awe of the Great Creator.

Sometimes I think we forget how amazingly creative our God really is. Like the many animals and insects he created uniquely and complex, he made each person unique and special, equipping us each with gifts to better His kingdom.

Below are a few animals that I saw at the safari, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

“But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of these does not Know that the hand of Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”

Job 12:7-10

Suprisingly, the ostrich was the animal I enjoyed most during out visit to the Lion Country Safari. We saw several walking around. We witnessed a couple mating, and one bird even blocked out way by sleeping in the middle of the road. The ostrich is the largest bird with the largest eye of any animal. They run at a speed of 31 mph with two toes on each foot.

I was shocked to learn that the rhinoceros was gradually becoming extinct, and my children may never know what it is. Though it has very few predators, the rhino has become over hunted in it's home of sub-Saharan Africa.

The zebra reminds me most of people and God's intentions for us. Like humans, each individual zebra is unique, having it's own stripe pattern. When a group comes together, the stripes confuse predators. People are also meant to come together in times of trouble, especially when the predator, the devil, tries to attack one of our own. We are to come together and protect one another in prayer and community.

The giraffe is the tallest mammal. Their tongues are designed to feed on trees that other animals would avoid, such as those which are thorny. It's amazing how God designed each animal to live among one another and adapt to the environment.

It amazed me how flamingos can stand on their stick-like legs. They even sleep while standing. Though they only lay one egg a year, there was a a large number of them at the zoo.

The macaw has always been a fun bird to see and watch for me. Macaws have bright colors, which warn predators that they eat poisonous berries and are no good to eat. The colors become brighter with age, helping the birds to pick out the most mature mate.

Goats have personality! I didn’t realize how entertaining they could be until I began taking pictures of them. Goats are very smart. They communicate with one another, and a baby goat can recognize its mother soon after being born. They have a great sense of balance and can climb trees.
